why woofmang?

in the spring of 1996, i was the recipient of a grant from Meet The Composer (NYC) which paid for my participation in a concert that featured my original compositions for jazz orchestra (a.k.a "big band"). one of the pieces that was performed at that concert was titled "fat jack meat da woofmang".

a group of my friends had come to the concert, and afterwards, we all went out for drinks together; one of them was particularly taken with the title of that piece and started calling me "da woofmang"...

the nickname stuck.
